Your comprehensive exam is the most important part of your treatment plan, and will include: assessment of your airway, medical and dental history review, radiographs, assessment of your periodontal health, assessment of your temporomandibular joints, an intraoral exam of your teeth and soft tissues, often photography and a thorough discussion with you of all findings. Preventive treatments like dental cleanings and periodontal cleanings are a must. Treatment plan options will be discussed, your questions will be answered, and a treatment plan will be developed with your involvement. If your treatment plan involves cosmetic dentistry, the doctor you select is critical. Dr. Jaksa has the experience and skills to give you the result you want. He will address not only the teeth, but function (your bite) and soft tissue architecture (where the gum tissues are). He will use photography and mounted models of your teeth to treatment plan your restoration. You will be educated and involved. If referrals are necessary, Dr. Jaksa works with a team of the most competent specialists in the area.
Most periodontal disease can be treated by our competent staff
Dr. Jaksa does have an excellent relationship with several periodontists in the area including Dr. Robert Jensen, whom he considers part of his dental team. Complex cases involving cosmetic dentistry, poor function, periodontal issues, or implants are often multidisciplinary. This involves close teamwork with a competent periodontist to attain the best result. Dr. Jaksa is the leader in these treatment plans and is blessed to have a teammate like Dr. Robert Jensen who is committed to excellence. Much time, commitment and communication is often spent on these cases between Dr. Jaksa and Dr. Jensen. Moving tissues to their correct location on the teeth can be accomplished with surgical procedures such as crown lengthening (removing tissue) or grafting (adding tissue). Periodontally involved teeth may require oral surgery to improve the patient’s chances of not losing these compromised teeth. Implants, when placed, must be precisely positioned for successful treatment. This requires teamwork between the surgeon and Dr. Jaksa.

Crown Lengthening
Teeth erupt until they touch the opposing tooth. With biting edge wear, upper teeth erupt down, pulling gingival tissues out of correct alignment. This leaves gingival tissues over the front teeth down and improperly positioned. Crown lengthening repositions (subtracts) gingival tissue up over the front two teeth so that restorations can be correctly made to the appropriate length and thickness. This is necessary for both proper esthetics, thickness of porcelain of restoration, and enough tooth to restore. Six crowns placed on the front teeth after crown lengthening

Grafting
Tissues have receded (positioned up) from improper bite. Tissues are grafted or added over upper teeth. Teeth are restored to correct bite. This is critical for a grafting procedure to be successful. ten crowns placed on upper teeth after grafting and the bottom front teeth shaped.
