There are 3 parts to your biting system. This includes your temporomandibular joint, your muscles of mastication, and your teeth. Poor function can affect any of these areas. For example temporal headaches are related to how teeth come together. Noise or Clicking of your joint or joints is often related to how your teeth come together. Wear on teeth, broken teeth, loose teeth, bone loss around teeth, recession around teeth, sensitive teeth are often related to how teeth come together. If you have any of these problems, this will be discussed. The most important thing for long-term dental health is proper dental function. Nice looking smiles can go away with time if dental function is poor.
If relevant the rules of esthetics are also discussed. This is how teeth are to look ideally. This is reviewed through photos of ideal smiles. We then look at your smile photos and discuss any relevant issues.
Next we look at the photos of your teeth where you’ll be able to see things like wear, decay, failing fillings or crowns if present. Other patient’s Before and after Photos of previously treated teeth may be shown to you. This is most helpful to see photos of a problem like yours, and how it is resolved. Any problems you have, we have photography of a case similar to yours to show you, and how it was resolved.
After patient education, your treatment plan is developed with your input. Choices, insurance and fees are discussed. Whatever your treatment plan, the benefits of treatment versus the consequences of not are discussed. It is also discussed how we go about solving complex treatment plans if pertinent.
