Root canal treatment is a painless procedure that is sometimes necessary to save your tooth from extraction. Root canal treatment is necessary when the pulp (artery, nerve, vein, and connective tissue) becomes inflamed or diseased. During a root canal, this diseased tissue is removed from your pulp chamber and pulp canal inside your tooth. This is what keeps your tooth alive. If this is not done, bacteria will replace the vital pulpal tissue and eventually move out of the tooth into the bone and facial tissues, and cause the tooth to abscess. The pulpal chamber and root canal of the tooth are cleaned and sealed with a rubber type material called gutta percha, so bacteria can’t live and grow inside the tooth. This is a highly successful treatment to save many teeth. If the infective pulp is not removed, significant pain and facial swelling can result. The option to this treatment is usually an undesirable extraction if an abscessed tooth is not treated with root canal treatment.
Causes of an infective pulp could include decay all the way to the pulp, a cracked tooth, a broken tooth, or trauma to the tooth.
A tooth treated with a root canal can last your entire life. This is an excellent choice to save an infected tooth rather than extraction.
Root canal treatment usually involves one or two appointments. Often, but not always, patients who need root canal treatment are experiencing significant pain, and the simple procedure eliminates the pain if not immediately, quickly. It is possible to have a tooth that needs a root canal and be pain free. A symptom free abscess is most often diagnosed on radiographs. Treatment is wise before it becomes a problem, such as significant pain and tooth loss.

I wanted to thank you for taking such good care of me while in my “time of need”. After being in intense pain for the whole weekend, your office was able to get me in the same day I called, even though I was not your patient at that time. To tell you the truth I was extremely nervous as I knew I was going to need a root canal & I had never had one before, so I was expecting the worst. You and your fabulous team made me feel very comfortable and calm. Then I left feeling GREAT!
*I will be referring all my family and friends here!
Thank you, Tina
